behind-the-scenes writing
for small business owners, artists + professionals

frequently asked questions

How many hours does each project take?

It depends. For most projects, the interview part where you tell me your story and we get aligned on what we're working on will take will take between a half hour and an hour. From there it varies widely. But we'll set a time budget before I start work and you'll be kept informed about whether I'm nearing that time or need more time to complete what you've asked for. You won't be billed for surprise hours. Communication and transparency are super important to me.

How will your writing be delivered to me?

Files can be delivered via Google Docs, Pages, or Microsoft Word, depending on your preference.

When are you available during the work day?

I am available for correspondence, new project discussion, and interviews between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm, Monday through Friday. For me, creating good writing requires silence and a lot of focus, so, I have "dark hours" built into my schedule where I am offline and focused on writing. . I don't work evenings and weekends. That time is reserved for my family.

Do interviews happen over the phone, Zoom, or in person?

When possible with regard to distance and logistics, it can be helpful for me to be able to visit brick-and-mortar businesses in person so I can experience the vibe of your space. For menu description projects, it can be helpful for me to try at least some of the food. For a farm, it's helpful for me to experience the land. That said, there are a lot of professionals who I don't need to be in person with to understand. So, like most things, this is case by case. We'll figure out what makes the most sense together before we start your project

When will you bill me?

For retainer projects, you will be billed at the start of the month, which will kick off your contract period. For hourly projects, you will be billed once your final deliverable is complete.

How can I pay?

I accept payments by check or by Venmo or PayPal.

Can you design my website, business card, and other print materials for me?

Maybe. I do have some light designing experience. In a former life, I designed stationery, and I designed this website on Wix. I'm not equipped to make elaborate websites. You'd be better paired with a web designer. But for most small business needs, I may be able to help. If working with one person for your words and your visuals is something you feel good about, let's talk about what's possible.

Let's see what story we can tell together.
