About Lauren Harkawik.
I am a fiction writer, essayist, and journalist.
My fiction has been published in New Reader Magazine, Goats Milk Magazine, and Sweet Tree Review. My short story, "Joey Button," which was originally published in New Reader Magazine, is currently being distributed worldwide in Short Édition's short story dispensers.
My creative nonfiction has been published in Salt Hill, Autofocus, and Cutleaf. My journalistic work explores culture through the lenses of food, design, science, and news. Publications I have worked with include The Takeout; Architectural Digest; Times Union Hudson Valley; and The Deerfield Valley News.
I hold a BFA in dramatic writing from Purchase College and am a 2024 recipient of an Artist Development Grant, supported by the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts. I am a previous recipient of a Town Arts Fund Grant from the Arts Council of Windham County. I’m currently at work on a novel. I’m based in southern Vermont, where I live with my husband and daughters.
